Ashes Result
WOW! What a thrilling end to the First Ashes Test in Cardiff! This morning I thought it was all over and that Australia would walk away with a vicotry. The weather wasn’t even going to help – after yesterday’s rain when it looked as if a draw could be on the cards – the sun shone from blue skies and there was no way play was going to be interrupted by rain! Then all of a sudden Collingwood was out and we still had 40 minutes to go it was time to hold my breath and hide behind the couch as there was no way we could last and having come so close it would be heartbreaking to lose right on the last few balls!
Who would have believed that James Anderson and Monty Panesar would be the batting heroes of the match – especially when Anderson’s batting buddy (Alistair Cook) went for 6 yesterday! Still Cook and Collingwood (Panesar’s batting buddy) can take a bow for helping their charges to take their chances with the bat and defend where necessary to ensure that England ended up by taking a lead in the the number of runs and ultimately drawing the match!
So congratulations to England – we’re still trying to come down from the ceiling and write a Roundup of this last day of Ashes action until Thursday when the 2nd Ashes Test starts at Lord’s.
